Emergency Sheltering Training Exercise – July 2015

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Emergency Management and emergency response partners conducted a training exercise on July 25, 2015 at Walkertown High & Middle School. This is a 4-hour, functional exercise tested ESF-6 (Mass Care & Sheltering) and ESF-7 (Animal Response) of Forsyth County’s Emergency Operations Plan. The exercise addressed the preparation and security of a mass sheltering facility for humans and their animal companions during a simulated local state of emergency. Communications among the various agencies and organizations involved in the exercise were also tested.

Participating agencies and organizations included, but are not limited to, the following: Forsyth County Animal Control, Forsyth County Department of Public Health, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Emergency Management, North Carolina Emergency Management, ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Services), American Red Cross, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System, PEART (Piedmont Emergency Animal Response Team), NC ART (North Carolina Animal Response Team) and the Triad Healthcare Preparedness Coalition.
