Forsyth COAD Is Practicing For A Real Disaster

Jan 30, 2015

On January 26, 2015, Forsyth COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster) participated in a simulated disaster that involved round-table discussions. Community organizations and government agencies simulated actions that would be taken by their respective organizations before, during, and after a severe weather event in Forsyth County. The participants were given scenarios involving high winds, heavy rain and tornadoes that impacted areas across the county.

Community organizations and local government agencies play vital roles during disasters. Forsyth COAD organizations plan together on a regular basis to ensure the community’s needs are addressed when emergencies and disasters arise. If your organization would like to get involved in disaster response and planning, contact the COAD Chair, Ken Hoglund at, or 336.758.5120

The following COAD organizations participated in January’s exercise: Sunnyside Ministry, CHANGE, American Red Cross, Goodwill Industries, Second Harvest Food Bank, Forsyth ARES, Senior Services, HandsOn NWNC, Forsyth County Department of Public Health, Forsyth County Department of Social Services, Winston-Salem Housing Authority and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Emergency Management.
