HazMat Drill in Kernersville

KERNERSVILLE – Winston-Salem Fire Department and Kernersville Fire Department participated in a three-day interagency hazardous materials drill from June 28th through June 30th. Hazardous Material Teams and Decontamination Units responded to a real-time mock scenario involving the rescue of victims from a contaminated “hot zone.” Rescue and decontamination drill operations rotated through three different fire department work schedules in order to include all shifts and the majority of hazmat and decon personnel. Other participating agencies included Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Office of Emergency Management, Forsyth County EMS, Forsyth County Fire Department and Kernersville Police Department. The drill was supported by a grant from the North Carolina Division of Emergency Management. A special thanks to ABF Freight Systems, Inc. for the use of their equipment and facility grounds during the drill.
